Ingatestone Hall

Location : Hall Ln, Ingatestone CM4 9NR

Ingatestone Hall is a Grade I listed 16th-century manor house in Essex. The house was built by Sir William Petre, and his descendants live in the house to this day.

On specified days during the summer months, visitors are welcome to spend a couple of hours or more exploring the house and grounds.

Guided tours for parties are available by prior arrangement at other times.

Belchamp Hall

Location : Belchamp Walter, Sudbury CO10 7AT

Belchamp Hall is a Queen Anne period house of red brick, with a front nine bays wide and of two storeys below a cornice and solid parapet.

The Hall and its grounds is registered under the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act 1953, within the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens by English Heritage for its special historic interest.

The front porch leads into the central hall, hung with family portraits and from which an elegant staircase leads to the upper rooms.

Hylands House

Location : London Rd, Writtle, Chelmsford CM2 8WQ

Hylands House is a Grade II listed Neo-Classical elegant villa with restored period rooms from both Georgian and Victorian eras.

Originally built as a modest red brick Queen Anne style home in 1730 by local MP Sir John Comyns, the house and parkland was redesigned by landscape designer and architect Humphry Repton.

Steeped in history and set amongst beautiful surroundings, Hylands House is a fascinating place to explore.

Hylands House opens its doors on the third Sunday of the month.

Layer Marney Tower

Layer Marney Tower is England’s tallest Tudor Gatehouse, standing within the Essex landscape, with views to the River Blackwater.

With nearly 500 years of history, Layer Marney Tower has many stories to tell. This grade 1 building, built in red brick, has some of the finest Italianate terracotta in the country.

Paycocke’s House & Garden

Built around 1500 for Thomas Paycocke, the house is a grand example of the wealth generated in East Anglia by the cloth trade in the 16th century.

The Moot Hall

Location : 41 High St, Maldon CM9 5PF

The Moot Hall Maldon is a unique Grade I listed heritage building.

Thought to have been built around 1420 the tower is part of a brick-built extension to an existing timber manor house known as D’arcy Mansion – the family home of Sir Robert D’arcy.

The building forming a tower now consists of three floors, of brick construction laid in English bond, with walls at least 2 ft thick and a lead roof.

Copped Hall

Copped Hall is a Georgian mansion that is currently under restoration. It is sited on a ridge overlooking its landscaped parkland.

The mansion and gardens are situated on a site of ancient human habitation.

Many important buildings from the Medieval, Tudor and Elizabethan eras were demolished prior to the present mansion being built and enlarged by the Victorians.
